You will receive a letter in the mail approximately 3 months before your set renewal date. If you have not received this letter, or cannot find it, not a problem! In this article, we’ll show you exactly how to renew your Utah driver’s license and the different options you have.

What Documents Do I Need for My Utah Drivers License Renewal?

Like all visits to the DMV, renewing a license will require you to present proper documentation. You will need to present two forms that prove your residency in the state. This can be your bank statement, credit card bill, school transcript, or a variety of other documents. You can find the full list here.

How to Renew Your Utah Driver’s License

The state of Utah provides a couple of different options for drivers looking to renew their licenses. We will go through them all below.

In-Person Renewal

First, you must schedule an appointment. No walk-ins are allowed for license renewals. You can utilize this link to find the nearest location to you, as well as set an appointment. They will ask you a few questions, allow you to select the service you require, and let you choose your appointment time and date.

At the Utah DMV, you will need to complete the following steps to renew your driver’s license:

  1. Complete a renewal application. You can fill it out in the office or do it online ahead of time.
  2. Take a new photograph
  3. Pass a vision screening
  4. Complete a medical questionnaire
  5. Surrender your existing license
  6. Pay drivers license renewal fee of $25

After these tasks, you will be given a temporary photo ID. Your permanent card will be mailed to you within a few weeks.

Renewal Online

Luckily, the Utah DMV allows drivers to renew their license online. Your eligibility is detailed in the letter provided to you prior to your renewal, however, if you have already verified your identity with the Driver’s License Division, you should be good to go!

To complete an online renewal, you’ll have to visit the Utah Driver License Online Renewal service. You will be asked for your license number, last name, and the issuance date of your previous credential. A PIN number will also be required. This should be included in your renewal letter, but you can call the Utah DMV if you may have misplaced it. If you did not receive a PIN, you will have to schedule an appointment at the nearest DMV to renew your license.

What if My License Has Expired?

You’re given a 6 month grace period to renew your driver’s license in Utah. After these 6-months, you will be required to retake the knowledge test, driving exam, in addition to a vision screening. You will also need to provide proof of identity, proof of social security number, as well as proof of Utah residency. It’s best to renew your license well before its expiration date to avoid extra complications.
