If you’re looking to get your Nevada learner’s permit, also known as the instruction permit, then you’ve come to the right place. This article will cover all the details you need to know.

The instruction permit is used to practice driving under the supervision of a licensed driver. It will help you get used to driving and handling hazardous situations before you progress to the driver’s license and drive solo.

When Can I Apply for an Instruction Permit?

In Nevada, you can apply for your permit as early as 15 ½. Regardless of your age, you will need to get a permit before getting a full license.

How to Get a Nevada Learner’s Permit

To get your learner’s permit, you must do the following:

  1. You will need to visit the Nevada DMV to apply for your permit. You’ll need a parent or guardian with you if you’re under 18.
  2. You can fill out the application online and print it or grab a copy while you’re at the DMV.
  3. You’ll need to provide the following documentation when applying: (1) proof of identity, (2) proof of Nevada address, (3) social security number, and (4) proof of school attendance (if under 18).
  1. Your vision will be examined to determine if your eyesight is sufficient for operating a motor vehicle. You will need to score a 20/40 or better.
  2. You need to pass the knowledge exam.
  3. After you’ve completed the above-mentioned, you will be required to pay a $23.25 instruction permit fee.

Passing the Knowledge Exam

The knowledge exam is the most difficult thing you’ll need to do in order to get your learner’s permit in Nevada. You’ll be tested on rules of the road, traffic signs, and more. The test consists of 50 questions and you’ll be required to answer 40 correctly in order to pass for a score of 80%.

The amount of information you’ll need to retain may seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. The failure rate is 50% nationwide, so we recommend that you study with a proper study resource. That’s where Zutobi comes in – we make studying for your test easy with our summarized driver’s handbook, up-to-date Nevada practice tests, and a gamified learning experience. When Can You Progress to the Next License?

You need to be at least 16 years old and have held your learner’s permit for at least six months before you can progress to a full license. Furthermore, if under 18, you must complete a driver’s education course, and complete behind the wheel training which is between 50-100 hours (of which 10 hours are at night). The amount of hours depend on the type of course you’ve chosen.

All applicants are also required to pass the road test.

That’s It!
