Nevada Driving Lesson Requirements

🧢 If you’re under 18

  • You must have a permit to start driving under supervision. You can apply for one when you turn 15½ years old.
  • You’ll need to pass a vision test and the written knowledge exam.
  • You are required to complete a DMV-approved driver education course, either in a classroom or online.
  • In addition to driver's ed, you must also complete 50 hours of supervised driving with a licensed adult who is at least 21 years old (this includes 10 hours of night driving).
  • If you live in a remote area with no nearby or available driver education course, you must complete 100 hours of supervised driving instead.
  • After successfully completing the requirements mentioned above and holding your permit for at least 6 months, you can schedule your road test to get a license. Upon passing your test, you’ll receive your license and can drive unsupervised (with certain restrictions).
👨 If you’re over 18
  • You must first apply for an instruction permit. If granted, you can begin supervised driving, schedule your road test, and get a full license.
  • You are not required to complete a driver education course or log a specific number of practice hours.
  • To receive a full license, you must pass a vision screening, a written knowledge test, and a road test.
  • While not required, it is strongly recommended that you get driving practice and consider taking a few professional lessons to build safe driving habits.
