When traveling behind a vehicle, you should ride:

AAs close to the vehicle as possible
Where the driver can see you in the rearview mirror
CWith a following distance of at least 5-6 seconds

AIf your turn signals are not working
BIf bright sunlight makes your turn signals hard to see

All of the above

You must make your intentions clear before you change lanes or turn, even if your turn signals are not working or malfunctioning. The best way to do that is by using your turn signal lights, but if they can't be seen or are not working you will have to use hand signals instead.

Is it always important to maintain enough space on all sides of your motorcycle?

ANo, only in bad conditions
BNo, only if you’re a newly licensed rider
Yes, because you will have time to react and respond to potential hazards

It’s important that you maintain a large-enough space cushion around your motorcycle - the space cushion provides valuable time to react and respond to potential dangers. You should have a space cushion regardless of the conditions, weather, and how long you have held your license. However, newly licensed riders may need additional space.

What is the BAC limit for motorcycle riders 21 or older?

A0.00 BAC
B0.02 BAC
0.08 BAC
D0.10 BAC

The BAC limit is 0.08 for drivers 21 years old or older, but you may be affected at a much lower BAC and be an unsafe rider after as little as one alcoholic beverage. The BAC limit for motorcyclists is the same as for car drivers.

You are forced to leave the road to check the motorcycle. Where should you stand?

AJust by the side of the road
As far off the road as you can
CAny place that is not on the road if you place emergency triangles

If you need to leave the road to check the motorcycle, get as far off the road as you can. Motorcycles that are stopped by the side of the road can be very hard to see, so you want to give yourself as much space as you can to the road.

What does extra weight on a motorcycle change?

AIt reduces the braking distance
BIt improves handling
CIt helps you accelerate faster
It negatively affects your handling, braking, and acceleration

Any time you carry a passenger or large loads, you will change the way your motorcycle behaves. Practice on empty streets before you ride with a passenger or heavy load for the first time.

What should motorcycle passengers do?

AHelp balance the motorcycle by putting down their feet at each stop
BHold on only when specifically asked to by the rider
Sit as far forward as possible without crowding the rider

Passengers must hold on at all times, not just when asked to by the rider, and should keep their feet firmly placed on the foot rests even when stopped. They should be positioned as far forward as possible without crowding the rider.

What is hydroplaning?

AWhen you don’t have time to respond to a hazard because you’re distracted
BWhen all electronic devices in the vehicle stop working
When a layer of water builds between your tires and the road surface

When you’re hydroplaning, you will often skid uncontrollably due to your tires ‘surfing’ on top of the water.

High speeds, low tread depth, and low air pressure increases the risk of hydroplaning.
