What does it mean that alcohol is a depressant?
Alcohol makes you tired and slower in general, hence the name depressant. It negatively affects your driving abilities in many different ways. For example, alcohol reduces your ability to cope with several things simultaneously such as responding to traffic signals or avoiding pedestrians on the road.
Even just one or two alcoholic drinks can greatly impact your ability to drive. Don't drink and drive.
