CDL General Knowledge Test
Must-haveAll CDL applicants must take the general knowledge test to get their CLP. It is required to operate all commercial vehicles and is made to assess your traffic law knowledge, vehicle handling, and safety regulations, pre-trip vehicle inspections, and more.

CDL Pre-Trip Inspection
The CLP applicant must demonstrate knowledge by inspecting critical vehicle components such as tires, brakes, lights, mirrors, fluids, steering, suspension, emergency equipment, coupling devices, and cargo securement.

Tanker Vehicles Endorsement Test
For applicants who intend to operate commercial vehicles carrying liquids or gases in tanks exceeding 119 gallons individually, with a combined capacity of 1,000 gallons or more. The test evaluates your knowledge of handling tankers, proper loading and unloading procedures, inspecting tanks, and emergency response practices.

Hazardous Materials Endorsement Test
This endorsement is necessary for transporting hazardous materials, such as explosive, poisonous, or flammable liquids. This test assesses knowledge of safe handling, emergency procedures, transport regulations, loading and unloading, emergency procedures, and more.

School Bus Endorsement Test
Necessary to operate school buses transporting students to and from school or school-related activities. This test assesses student safety protocols, emergency evacuation practices, proper use of flashing lights and stop arms, railroad crossing safety protocols, and more.

Necessary for all CDL applicants planning to operate vehicles equipped with air brake systems. To pass this test, you must know how air brakes work, proper usage, dual and single air brakes, and how to perform safety checks.

Double/Triple Endorsement Test
This endorsement is required to operate combination vehicles with double or triple trailers. It evaluates your knowledge of coupling and uncoupling multiple trailers, inspecting specialized equipment, safety protocols, managing trailer sway and rollover risks, and maintaining vehicle stability.

Passenger Endorsement Test
The passenger endorsement test is necessary to operate commercial vehicles transporting 16 or more passengers.

CDL Classes and Endorsements
Combination Vehicle
Required for driving vehicles with a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) over 26,000 lbs, and for towing vehicles over 10,000 lbs. Includes tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, livestock carriers, and double/triple trailers. May also allow driving some Class B and C vehicles with proper endorsements.
Heavy Straight Vehicle
Required for Single vehicles with a GCWR over 26,000 lbs, and for towing trailers under 10,000 lbs. Covers straight trucks, segmented buses, city buses, school buses, and tourist buses.
Small Vehicle
Vehicles under 26,000 lbs used to transport hazardous materials or 16+ passengers. Typically includes passenger vans and small HAZMAT vehicles.
