Requirements in Illinois

Teen

Teens must complete a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving practice, including at least 10 hours of night driving. Driving hours with a licensed instructor required: Before obtaining a license, teens are required to complete at least 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor. Minimum age to start taking lessons: Teens can start taking driving lessons at the age of 15.

Adult

Adults who are looking to obtain their driver's license must first apply for a learner’s permit and pass a vision screening. Additionally, they must complete at least 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor before taking the driving test.
