Areas
Driving lessons and driver's ed can be taken at the same time once you have your permit.
- Complete a 32-hour driver's ed course
- Get a learner permit after the first 6 hours of the course (includes written test)
- 14 hours of in-car training with a licensed instructor (7 driving, 7 observation)
- 30 hours of supervised driving (10 at night) with a parent or instructor
- Finish the Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) course
- Pass the DPS road test
The different in-car training options are:
- Professional instruction from a certified driving school
- Parent-taught driver education (remember that the same parent/guardian must complete all 14 hours)
